Welp, it’s back to the Democrat plantation for black and brown people. Oh, and the womenfolk. Can’t forget the womenfolk.

After a heartbreaking loss for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and a brutal curb-stomping of Kamala Harris in 2024, the Democrat Party’s decision-makers are beginning to acknowledge the grim reality of their presidential politics: The American people aren’t as stupid as Democrats think they are. Thus, they’re no longer buying the ramrod diversity that the Democrats have been peddling. As Holly Otterbein writes at Axios, “Some top Democrats are quietly debating a fraught question: whether the party’s best bet for winning back the presidency in 2028 is to nominate a man — perhaps a straight, white, Christian man.”

Yes, it worked with Barack Obama, our nation’s first half-black president with a Muslim background. Democrats deceitfully packaged him as a moderate and patriotic Christian, but he turned out to be a hard-left America-hater. But Obama so poisoned the Democrat brand that both would-be glass-ceiling-breakers crashed and burned. And, so, in choosing their presidential standard-bearer for 2028, this will be the unwritten rule of the Democrats’ power brokers: non-white non-males need not apply.

Oh, you broads and Buttigiegs and coloreds can run, they’ll say, and we’ll extol your virtues and treat you with dignity. But we Democrats are all about power, so we need to run a straight white guy this time.

Alas, said Harris in retrospect about the process of selecting a running mate, Buttigieg “would have been an ideal partner — if I were a straight, white man.”

This is unseemly, even grotesque. Why not just let Democrat primary voters decide who their 2028 presidential candidate will be? Sadly, though, the Democrats aren’t about representative democracy. If they were, front-running socialist candidate Bernie Sanders would’ve been clobbered by Donald Trump in the 2020 general election instead of getting shivved in the primary by his own party in favor of the dementing-but-more-electable Joe Biden.

But there’s a pragmatic side to all this. Outside of white male governors like California’s Gavin Newsom, Kentucky’s Andy Beshear, and Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro, the Democrats’ 2028 presidential bench looks pretty thin. New York Congresswoman Sandy Cortez? New Jersey Senator Spartacus Booker? Maryland Governor Wes Moore? Hard pass, whisper the Democrats’ moneymen and power brokers.

Heck, even Shapiro — a very popular governor from a crucial swing state — is suspect because he’s Jewish, and because the Democrat base hates Jews.

So the Democrats’ dalliance with diversity may have to be shelved, but only temporarily — only long enough to put a safe-seeming white guy in the White House to replace the most consequential president of our non-octogenarian lifetimes and thereby deny the American people their first Hillbilly president or their first Hispanic one.

Axios’s Otterbein continues:

Their fear, divulged with dismay in group chats, at cocktail parties and increasingly in public, is that parts of the electorate are too biased to support a woman or other diverse candidate for president.

Former first lady Michelle Obama fueled such talk recently, saying the U.S. is “not ready for a woman.” Democratic strategists have put it bluntly, with several saying a version of “It has to be a white guy.”

Indeed, “We ain’t ready,” said our nation’s First Lady of Victimhood and Aggrievement last November. “That’s why I’m like, ‘Don’t even look at me about running, 'cause you all are lying. You’re not ready for a woman. You are not. So don’t waste my time*. Y'know, we got a lotta growin’ up to do.”

I can’t argue with her that the Democrats need to grow up when it comes to identity politics. Because whereas merit-based diversity sort of bubbles up naturally on the Republican side, it’s been forcibly administered on the Democrat side, like a tablespoonful of ipecac syrup. I mean, if there’s e'er bin a dummer presidential canidate then Keystone Kamala, I can’t think of him. Oddly, as Neetu Arnold wrote at the Manhattan Institute, the Democrats have become less diverse: “For all the talk of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) from the Democratic Party, the 2024 election results demonstrate that its voter base has ironically become less diverse. Exit polls show that Democrats lost ground across a broad range of voter groups — Hispanics, Asians, Blacks, and both the working and middle class. The only demographic where they made notable gains at the presidential level was among college-educated white voters.”

For years now, the Democrats have been trying to put lipstick on a diversity pig. But it hasn’t worked. And they’re getting desperate.
