The Patriot Post® · Who Actually Cares About Migrant Kids?
Are you more upset about the Trump administration finding missing (illegal) migrant children or the Biden administration allowing them into the country and then losing them?
If you’re children’s entertainer Ms. Rachel, the Trump-deranged answer is obvious. The Washington Post has the “exclusive” on the latest celebrity who’s upset with Donald Trump:
Rachel Griffin Accurso — Ms. Rachel, to her millions of followers — made her first visit to Capitol Hill on Tuesday afternoon, wearing a bubblegum-pink linen suit and wheeling a black suitcase filled with stapled packets of handwritten letters and drawings. They were the words and artwork of children, all of whom have been — or remain — in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at the nation’s only family immigration detention center. …
She had come with a plan: Over a brief two-day visit to Washington, she wanted to deliver the letters and drawings to members of Congress and tell them about the children she’d met. Her goal was to urge every official she spoke with — Democrats and Republicans alike — to end family detention and reunite the children and parents who had been separated by ICE enforcement.
Don’t get me wrong; it’s sad to see children in detention centers, and I’m not saying they’re having a great time there. But the blame falls squarely on the adults who brought them illegally to the United States and on the judges who routinely block expedited deportations, not the law enforcement agents who found those kids or the president who decided to enforce immigration laws. That president, by the way, just signed a $70 billion bill to fund ICE for the remainder of his term.
Parents often separate themselves from their own children, sending them on the dangerous pilgrimage to the U.S., often brought by traffickers who, let’s say, don’t have their best interests at heart.
Ms. Rachel has a popular children’s show on YouTube and Netflix, so she certainly has a platform and a reason to highlight the plight of kids. That doesn’t make her emphasis right. As a side note, most of her pictures in the Post article are of her posing with Democrats and gleefully smiling for the camera. In other words, she didn’t look terribly distressed, though she’s certainly on-brand with that toothy grin, and one might be forgiven for thinking her trip was more about publicity than children.
The day before arriving in DC, Accurso showed up at a New Jersey DHS facility in her full Ms. Rachel costume to agitate on behalf of illegal aliens. Why is that location important? “That’s been ground zero for the most recent waves of highly publicized assaults on Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by Antifa and other violent radical leftist mobs,” said podcaster Tim O'Brien. “These are the groups Ms. Rachel has aligned with.”
In DC, she dutifully expressed her anger at the Trump administration and public ignorance. “Overwhelmingly, the American public still does not realize that, as a nation, we are imprisoning babies, toddlers, and children who have done nothing wrong,” she said. “Sustained attention on cruelty against children is critically important.” Accurso escalated her rhetoric to accuse the government of “terrorizing children.”
Crossing the border illegally is wrong, and detaining them for doing so — depending on how it’s done — is not cruelty. The only people “terrorizing children” are the human traffickers who exploit minors for work or sex. But Democrats have never actually cared about immigrant children.
A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security rebutted Ms. Rachel’s distorted narrative, saying, “ICE does not separate families. Parents are asked if they want to be removed with their children, or ICE will place the children with a safe person the parent designates.” Putting the spotlight back where it belongs, the spokesman noted that DHS “has led the efforts to rescue and stop the exploitation of the 450,000 unaccompanied children the Biden administration lost or placed with unvetted sponsors” and is “laser focused on protecting children and will continue to work with federal, state, and local law enforcement to reunite children with their families.”
Ms. Rachel doesn’t have anything to say about trafficked children. Just the rescued ones in federal custody. She didn’t complain about Joe Biden inviting illegals to “surge to the border.” She just can’t stand Donald Trump for enforcing the law.
Speaking of that, on Thursday, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced that the Department of Justice has indicted three Guatemalan illegal aliens who “allegedly took part in a wide-ranging conspiracy to smuggle more than a dozen children into the United States by scamming the system and exploiting the loopholes created by the last administration.”
It’s far bigger than three guys, though. At the same press conference, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin noted that the Trump administration had found 146,000 illegal alien children who went missing during the Biden administration. “When the government fails to protect our borders, it is the most vulnerable who suffer,” he said. “This administration, we’re going to find you, and those that preyed on these young kids, we’re going to bring you to justice. We’re going to charge you, we’re going to work side by side with Todd Blanche and the DOJ to make sure you pay for your crimes.”
Those crimes? “We’re investigating reports to where some of these kids claim that they were raped 6[00] to 700 times,” Mullin added. “I don’t care who you are. If you can’t stand for law enforcement to go find these kids, who are you?”
