The Patriot Post® · Gabbard Dumps on Fauci
The last chapter of Anthony Fauci’s self-aggrandizing 2024 memoir — which I bought at the thrift store for $1.50 so you don’t have to — is titled “Illegitimi Non Carborundum.” If you’re not into dead languages, this is a fake Latin phrase meaning, “Don’t let the bastards grind you down.”
This guy. Worse yet, the shameless Fauci begins the chapter thusly:
It was January 21, 2021, the first full day of Joe Biden’s presidency, and I was standing at the lectern in the White House Briefing Room. “One of the things that we’re going to do is to be completely transparent, open, and honest,” I told members of the media and, through them, the American public. “If things go wrong, not point fingers, but to correct them. And to make everything we do be based on science and evidence.”
This guy. This freakin’ guy. Tony Fauci, the tiny technocrat who long ago became a proxy for both Trump derangement and our federal government’s COVID-19 cover-up, didn’t even include an index at the back of his book. This seems odd, especially for such a strict adherent to “science” and “evidence” — but it serves the purpose of helping him hide his paucity of references to the Wuhan Institute of Virology or the lab-leak theory fact.
It was bats and pangolins and the Wuhan wet market, you stupid MAGA rubes.
Fauci does slip up, though, when he writes that during the initial stage of the outbreak, his team “had a hard time finding out what was really going on in China because doctors and scientists there appeared to be afraid to speak openly for fear of retribution from the Chinese government.” Here, even a remotely curious person would ask: If COVID really did come to us naturally from a bat or a pangolin, why on earth would Chinese doctors and scientists be afraid to simply say so?
Could it be that they were really afraid to tell the truth, which was that COVID came from a lab leak at a government-run level-4 virology facility — a facility whose dangerous gain-of-function research was being funded by millions from Fauci’s own National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and thus by the American taxpayer?
No wonder he kept trying to deny even Jon Stewart’s commonsense assessment of chocolatey goodness.
I mention all this because on Thursday, outgoing Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released a trove of damning materials related to Fauci’s role in the COVID pandemic. As the ODNI press release puts it, these are “never-before-seen communications and documents exposing how Fauci worked with politicized career leadership in the Intelligence Community (IC) to suppress the truth about his actions, the virus’s lab-leak origins, and his role in directing U.S. funding for this dangerous research that caused immeasurable harm and countless lost lives.”
Moreover, said Gabbard, “The tactics used to hide the truth are straight from the deep state playbook: politicized self-serving leaders like Dr. Fauci covered up their own wrongdoing and abuses of power, manipulated intelligence, lied to Congress, and undermined a duly elected President by restricting his access to vital facts needed to keep the country safe.”
Specifically, says Gabbard, Fauci lied under oath to Congress in 2024, when he “denied knowledge of or participation in discussions with intelligence officials about viral research.”
If you’re interested in the truth, Gabbard’s five-minute farewell video is well worth watching.

Then there was the censorship of the experts. As columnist Ed Morrissey points out, “Dr. Jay Bhattacharya and his Great Barrington Declaration colleagues got punished for raising objections that weren’t just rational but turned out to be absolutely correct. Bhattacharya ended up vindicated and now works within the regulatory agencies that once punished him, but the damage to millions of lives and thousands of careers had already been done.”
But Fauci didn’t just personally hide the truth or censor the experts. As Gabbard notes, her office has heard from multiple Intelligence Community whistleblowers who testified about retaliation for challenging the IC’s manipulation of intelligence on the origins of the virus.
As for the specifics of lying to Congress, here’s Gabbard: “The correspondence released today directly contradicts Fauci’s 2024 testimony to the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic. In that hearing, while under oath, Fauci was repeatedly asked whether he spoke to ‘FBI, CIA, DIA or any U.S. intelligence agency concerning viral research’ before, during, or after the pandemic. Fauci repeatedly dodged the questions, before falsely stating, ‘not to my knowledge about COVID.’”
So there it is. But it’s been six years, and the octogenarian Fauci has long since left the scene. What accountability might still be in store for him? As Morrissey writes, “With the midterms approaching and another budget cycle already lagging, there may not be enough legislative time on the calendar to act. If the House flips to Democrats in the midterms, the chances for a referral become somewhere between slim and none, and slim in this case means all but anorexic.”
Fauci, then, will likely slip away legally unscathed. But the court of public opinion will have the final say, and it won’t be charitable toward Anthony Fauci.
