The wheels of justice move slowly, but they do move. Almost one year ago, on the 4th of July, Antifa members attacked an ICE facility in Alvarado, Texas. Their purpose wasn’t to protest but to cause deadly destruction. They vandalized cars and shot fireworks outside the facility to lure and ambush those working inside. The ploy worked, and one law enforcement officer arriving on the scene, Police Lieutenant Thomas Gross, was shot and seriously injured.

Media coverage at the time was minimal, as usual, because stories like this conflict not only with The Narrative™ but with the rhetorical permission structure for leftist violence. CBS had sparse coverage, while other outlets like ABC and NBC did not cover the story at all.

Here we are, a year after the attack, and the mainstream media — if covering the legal fallout at all — are reframing who these domestic terrorists are. The Antifa members are called “protesters” or “alleged antifa members” by no less than The New York Times and The Washington Post, respectively.

A protester is no longer a protester if he or she is setting off explosives and attacking with the intent to kill. The proper descriptor is domestic terrorist. For the edification of the Times and Post, the Antifa membership of the Alvarado terrorists was proven beyond a shadow of a doubt in court. It is not “alleged.”

This week, the Texas judiciary did not fail the public, handing down hefty sentences to eight of the domestic terrorists; seven more sentences to other members of the terrorist group are expected in early July.

The leader, Benjamin Song, was sentenced to 100 years in prison. He planned the targeted attack on the facility and law enforcement. He was also the one who opened fire on Officer Gross, nearly killing him. Others in Song’s gang got between 30- and 70-year sentences.

To underscore the severity of what this Antifa cell was doing in the lead-up to the July 4th attack, the Department of Justice explained:

Evidence at trial revealed that most of the ANTIFA Cell involved in the Prairieland attack looked to Benjamin Song as a leader. Song acquired firearms that he distributed to co-defendants and recruited members at gun ranges and combat sessions he conducted, as well as from various ideologically aligned groups. For example, defendants Ines Soto, Elizabeth Soto, and Savanna Batten were part of a group that created and distributed insurrectionary materials called “zines,” according to trial evidence.

While media outlets either ignore the story or downplay the severity of the attack, a sitting member of Congress is defending the terrorists. Three guesses as to who that member might be.

If you guessed Hamas-supporting Michigan Democrat Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, you’d be correct. “These sentences are a travesty and totally unjustified, but that’s the point,” Tlaib posted on social media. “Americans hate the fascist Trump regime, so the only way they can try to cling to power is brute force. … More bulls**t ‘terrorism’ charges like these are coming.”

One wonders what Rashida Tlaib considers terrorism. She hates America and would rather see the country burn to the ground while heartless politicians like herself justify the violence and blame the victims. And her kind of Marxist politician is on the rise in blue districts. God help us.

Thankfully, the sentences just handed down in Texas are the sort of law-and-order rulings we need, where lawbreakers and terrorists are locked up for life and not permitted to destroy the peace. Let’s hope the forthcoming convictions are likewise severe enough to deter future violence.
