The Patriot Post® · DSA Extremism Run Amok
The Democrat Party has slowly begun recognizing a growing cancer within its ranks. It’s a growing radicalism that, on the surface, touts many of the policy objectives the party has long advocated, but with an extremist agenda that seeks the fundamental overturning of the American economic and governmental system that has defined the nation since its founding.
These Jacobin radicals within the Democrat Party are the largest socialist party within the U.S., the Democratic Socialists of America. As The Washington Post notes, “The DSA is not a political party. It’s an activist organization, so its members typically run as Democrats.”
Because the DSA is primarily an activist organization, its members see the Democrat Party as effectively a vehicle for gaining political power to eventually bring about the political and social transformation of America.
While the Post acknowledges that both the DSA and Democrats are effectively heading down the same policy road, the paper notes that mainstream Democrats don’t want to go as far down the road of radicalism. For example, mainstream Democrats just want to “smooth out capitalism’s rough edges.” DSA adherents want to eliminate capitalism entirely.
National Review editor Ramesh Ponnuru observes that the DSA, with its recent successes in Democrat primaries in Denver, Philadelphia, and New York, is playing coy about its political beliefs and agenda. DSA operatives are intentionally downplaying their extremist policy goals, including some of their members like Darializa Avila Chevalier, who recently won a Democrat House primary in New York, deleting a number of her social media posts in which she advocated for such things as “no more police at all ever.”
It’s a classic political play for Democrat politicians to present themselves as moderates to appeal more broadly to voters, only to tack left once elected. Joe Biden was the most recent example of this phenomenon on the national political scene. President Donald Trump can be criticized for various things, but at least he implements the policies he campaigned on. He is who he says he is, and he does what he said he would do. Unfortunately, that quality is a rarity among politicians these days.
So, what is the DSA’s platform, what are its members’ goals, and how do they differ from mainstream Democrats?
Both see bigger government as a necessary step toward realizing their political objectives. For mainstream Democrats, the goal is not to transform the government; rather, it’s to increase its power to meet the social and welfare goals they believe in. For the DSA, the goal is nothing short of a complete and total transformation of America’s governmental system.
For example, the DSA’s platform calls for abolishing the Senate and for Congress to appoint a new Supreme Court and a new president. Regarding America’s system of checks and balances with three coequal branches, the DSA regards it as a tool of “the ruling class.” In its place, some DSA members envision a “communist caucus” in which the authority of government rests on straight-up communism.
The DSA calls for eliminating capitalism and replacing it with state-run socialism. This would include such policies as single-payer healthcare and social housing. The DSA also advocates for a “living wage,” defined as a national minimum wage of around $30/hour. Being opposed to capitalism, DSA members also call for even more heavily “taxing the rich.” One of its elected members, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, has advocated a 70% tax on those making over $10 million annually.
The DSA wants to significantly reduce America’s military spending and, in turn, use the money to fund more social programs. The DSA is also antisemitic, as its first foreign policy plank is the ending of all aid to Israel.
When it comes to illegal immigration, for the DSA, there is no such thing. It would grant immediate mass amnesty for all current immigrants within the U.S., no matter their legal status. And all deportations would be ended. Furthermore, the DSA would grant full voting rights to all noncitizens living in the U.S.
The elimination of police, to be replaced with a “community force under communism,” would be the means for policing the populace. In other words, the DSA advocates a form of secret police to control the populace.
As noted, these are radical ideas that directly attack the very foundation of the value system upon which our great nation was established. The DSA’s goals and policies are inherently anti-American. Not only is the DSA a real threat to taking over the Democrat Party, but it is also a real threat to the U.S. and our individual liberty and rights as recognized and protected by the Constitution.
Americans need to stand up and call out the DSA for what it is: a communist organization falsely posing as an American political party. In truth, the DSA is an enemy of America that is taking advantage of our electoral system in order to gain enough power to enact a tyrannical governmental revolution.
