Pope Francis is calling for a prayer vigil for peace in Syria, and asserts, “Never has the use of violence brought peace in its wake. War begets war, violence begets violence.” While we appreciate the sentiments, and assuredly we should pray for justice and peace, just wars most certainly have resulted in peace throughout history.
