Despite the nation’s capital having some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, America this week witnessed yet another reason why “gun free zones” are powerless in the face of evil. (Yes, even when the tragedies don’t include so-called “assault weapons.”)

But never mind the horrific shooting. According to Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC), the District is the “safest city in America” thanks to the quick response by law enforcement. (We should note that there are allegations Capital Police were told to stand down upon arrival.)

“[T]he response of the police, the taking down of the shooter so quickly, convinces me yet again that this is the safest city in the United States. … And tonight we wanna say to residents that we don’t think there’s anything to fear in this city.”
