The Patriot Post® · Hope 'n' Change: Walgreens Drops Employee Health Coverage
Walgreens, the nation’s largest drugstore chain, announced that it would be moving its 160,000 workers to a private health insurance exchange where they can buy coverage subsidized by the company. The private exchange, to be run by Aon, is similar to ObamaCare public exchanges only it’s privately run and privately subsidized. Walgreens employees will initially receive compensation equal to what the company paid for health care benefits, but there are no guarantees moving forward.
Michael Polzin, a spokesman for Walgreen Co., said the change had nothing to do with the Affordable Care Act, insisting, “It’s something we’ve been looking at very closely in the last couple years.” That there’s no connection is a bit hard to believe, but just two months ago Walgreens announced that it would partner with Health and Human Services to promote ObamaCare.
Remember way back when Barack Obama promised, “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan”? Good times.
