The House voted 407-0 for H.R. 3223, the Federal Employee Retroactive Pay Fairness Act, applies the longstanding tradition of paying back federal workers hit by government shutdowns – in other words, declaring the shutdown “paid vacation.” Senate Demo Majority Leader Harry Reid begrudgingly approved of the measure, saying, “It’s really cruel to tell the workers they’ll get back pay but then not reopen the government.” Yes, terrible thing to provide folks with additional paid vacation time. Clearly Reid is upset that removing the “pain and suffering” factor will undermined Obama’s objective of emphasizing the “pain and suffering.”
