With Barack Obama promising health care for every American, it’s easy to see why low-info voters would assume that everything was going to be free and easy. When the deadline looms for individuals to buy insurance or else, however, reality is not quite so full of Hope ‘n’ Change. One supporter said, “Of course, I want people to have health care, I just didn’t realize I would be the one who was going to pay for it personally.” Another complained, “[N]ow I can understand why [Republicans] are so pissed about this [law]. When you take $10,000 out of my family’s pocket each year [for additional health insurance premiums], that’s otherwise disposable income or retirement savings that will not be going into our local economy.” May this enlightenment continue to spread.
