The cost of developing Obamacare’s exchange website, Healthcare.gov, cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $300-$600 million. But even if we take the lowest estimate, this price is far above what Apple paid developing the original iPhone, which came in around $150 million. Remember when HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said that ObamaCare was like an iPhone and that we needed to cut the federal government the same slack we give Apple? “That argument is as clueless as it is misleading,” Farhad Manjoo writes in The Wall Street Journal. Healthcare.gov is “quite a bit less complex than Apple’s groundbreaking miniature computer.” And let’s not forget: Apple made a product people want and are making a profit doing it.
