Yikes. According to new research from Camilo Mora, professor at the College of Social Sciences at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, the ocean faces “the simultaneous effects of warming, acidification, and reductions in oxygen and productivity” that could have dire consequences by the year 2100. According to the press release, “The human ramifications of these changes are likely to be massive and disruptive.” But here’s the best part: “The researchers used the most recent and robust models of projected climate change developed for the Fifth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) to inform their analysis.” Well thank goodness the IPCC’s projections have been remarkably accurate.
