A new report reveals that twenty-four million individuals have collected federal unemployment benefits over the past 5 years. According to The Washington Times, “The federal government has paid out 881 million weekly unemployment benefit checks during the current economic slowdown, totaling $252 billion since 2008, according to a new memo released Wednesday by the House Ways and Means Committee.” In retrospect, 8 million collected following the 1982 and 2002 recessions and 9 million in the aftermath of the 1991 retraction. Obamanomics has fostered an anemic “recovery,” resulting in a growing constituency dependent on the federal government to provide for their needs.
