State Secretary John Kerry, speaking at the Business Investment Summit Friday, echoed the sentiment of Russian President Vladimir Putin by declaring that America’s competitive economy has nothing to do with exceptionalism. We have marketplace freedom because it’s “the nature and base of our economy,” he said, “not because we are somehow superior or somehow better.” Recall what Putin said in September in the New York Times: “It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation.”
