“I am sorry that [people who’ve lost their insurance] are finding themselves in this situation based on assurances they got from me.” So said Barack Obama Thursday in another classic case of presidential non-apology apologies. He then went on to defend his repeated lies about people keeping their plans (“I meant what I said”), and he downplayed the suffering again (“We’re talking about 5% of the population… A lot of these plans are subpar plans.”) He’s sorry that his assurances put people in a predicament, but it wasn’t his assurances, it was his actions. Of course, he still blames those bad insurance companies for the cancelations.
