The Patriot Post® · Demo-goguing Food Stamps
“Americans do not only care about ensuring their neighbors have enough to eat on Thanksgiving, but at a time when people are about to sit around at the table with their families to celebrate a meal, it hardly seems [to be] the right time for pulling food off the table for millions of our neighbors and fellow Americans.” So said White House economic adviser Gene Sperling Tuesday. He was hammering the Republican proposal from earlier this year for a permanent $2 billion annual increase in food stamp spending over pre-recession levels. But it sounded better to slam them for taking turkeys at Thanksgiving. Food stamp spending has exploded under Barack Obama from $39 billion in 2008 to $80 billion in 2013.
