The EPA isn’t just in the business of shuttering coal plants. They’re also apparently a good source for backdoor gun (read: “bullet”) control. Thanks to regulations enacted in 2008, America’s lone lead smelter based in Herculaneum, Missouri, will be shut down at months'e end. Breitbart’s AWR Hawkins reports: “Herculaneum’s product is the type of lead used to make components for traditional lead ammunition, and once the smelter closes, such lead and/or ammunition components will have to be imported into the U.S. Ammunition prices are expected to rise, reflecting import costs.” However, Bob Owens of Bearing Arms notes, “[T]he majority of the lead used by ammunition manufacturers comes from secondary smelters that recycle lead from car batteries.” So the impact of Doe Run’s Herculaneum closure will have minimal effect on the production of ammo.
