After the ill-advised government shutdown, generic poll approval for congressional Republicans was stuck in neutral while Democrats were pulling ahead. And that was just as ObamaCare was launching and the GOP should have been mopping the floor with Democrats. Yet a month is a long time in politics, and the latest poll averages have Republicans pulling ahead for 2014 in a staggering 10-point net shift. Political polling expert Charlie Cook called it “one of the most dramatic shifts I’ve ever seen in 40 years of involvement in politics.” That’s the drag ObamaCare should have on Democrats if Republicans will focus in the right place. Then again, if a month is a long time, nearly a year is a lifetime.
