Speaker John Boehner shot down the prospect of immigration reform this year given Barack Obama’s perpetual indifference toward the Rule of Law. If he won’t even enforce existing rules, why believe he’d follow new ones? That very point was proved once again, this time courtesy of a decision directly affecting national security. For immigrants with a history of abetting terrorist groups yet who seek asylum, DHS has agreed to less stringent rules. Post 9/11, anyone suspected of offering terrorists “limited material support” were barred from entering the states. Now, they’ll be vetted to see if their involvement consisted of “routine commercial transactions or routine social transactions.” Apparently, by Obama’s logic, you’re only a terrorist if you directly perpetuate an attack; but inconspicuously aiding and abetting the enemy? Well then, the rules no longer apply.
