Wendy Davis, the Democrat candidate for governor in Texas, rose to fame by filibustering a bill in the state legislature that bans abortions after 20 weeks. Now she says she’d be ok with said ban and only opposed the bill that’s now law because “it didn’t give enough deference between a woman and her doctor making this difficult decision.” Actually, the law grants exceptions for fetal abnormalities and the mother’s health, which, presumably, the woman and her doctor would then consider in making the decision. Evidently, Davis realizes now that in a state-wide race in a red state, her extremist stance on abortion isn’t going to fly.
