In just five years, Obama has accumulated a staggering $6 trillion in debt. And this week’s debt ceiling hike, which doesn’t include any additional cost-cutting measures, means the White House is one step closer to having a blank check good through March 15, 2015. As Heritage Foundation’s Amy Payne explains, “Imagine all of America and all of the taxes people pay to the federal government every year. Do you have an overwhelming idea in your mind? Just 16 years from now, ALL of that money will pay for just two things: entitlement programs and interest on the debt.” Simply put, lawmakers can’t keep punting on a viable solution. It’s time to put political futures aside and focus on America’s best interests.
