As nuclear talks with Iran and six world powers begin yet again, the U.S. and Iran have very different objectives. At least the U.S. should have a different one, though under Barack Obama’s “leadership” that’s been unclear. Administration officials played down expectations, saying it’s “probably as likely that we won’t get an agreement as it is that we will.” By contrast, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was realistic. Talks over Iran’s nuclear program, he predicted, “will not lead anywhere.” That’s because Obama’s overtures of weakness have only emboldened Iran to stick to its plan to obtain nuclear weapons.
