The basic concept of insurance is to make provision for life’s risks. You buy health insurance to cover physical illness, auto insurance for car accidents and homeowner’s insurance to provide for various damage to your house. But here’s a question only Duke University professor Allen Frances is asking: “Why aren’t we buying insurance against global warming?” Naturally, Frances believes all the evidence points in one direction – that global warming is a sure thing. Except, for starters, the computer models he points to are 95% wrong, meaning buying “insurance” would be a losing bet. There is such a thing as a dumb question.
