Back in October, a glitch in Louisiana’s food stamp system led to a run on Walmart by recipients who loaded shopping carts with “free” stuff. Republican Gov. Bobby Jindal, however, promised to go after the offenders and strip their benefits. He finally succeeded, at least for six offenders. The state is close to disqualify another 25 people, and is investigating a few hundred. One official said, “The investigation and disqualification process is ongoing, and we expect it to result in additional disqualifications.” All told, offenders spent $315,000 they didn’t have in benefits.
