The Government Accountability Office says it will audit the Oregon health care exchange due to the fact the state spent $304 million in federal funds while failing to enroll a single person so far. Somewhat surprisingly, the audit is in response to a request sent last month by Oregon’s two Democrat senators, Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden. Both have expressed frustration with their home state’s failure, and Merkley says, “I look forward to reading [GAO’s] recommendations about how to fix the system and avoid this happening in the future.” We’re sure it’s coincidence that he’s up for re-election in November.
