The Patriot Post® · Government Employees
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that government workers cost roughly 45% more to employ than private sector workers. In December, the report says, private sector employers paid an average of $29.63 per employee hour worked, while an equivalent government worker cost $42.89 per hour. Much of the additional cost is due to pension and retirement, which costs an astounding 254% more for government workers than those in the private sector. Federal, state and local governments employ about 7% of all Americans. This isn’t to say there aren’t fine government employees who provide valuable services, but the cost of government is certainly out of control and a big part of that is its workforce.
