National Geographic is changing its maps to reflect Russian possession of Crimea. “We map de facto, in other words we map the world as it is, not as people would like it to be,” said NG geographer Juan José Valdés. “As you can only surmise, sometimes our maps are not received in a positive light by some individuals who want to see the world in a different light.” Wikipedia and the Associated Press are likewise dealing with the changing situation. The truth is Crimea will likely remain in Russian control as long as the West is unwilling to really do anything about it.
