When all else fails, taunt your opponent. At least that’s Barack Obama’s motto. “When women make less than men, that hurts the economy,” Obama said, stumping on the familiar theme of “equal pay” again. “This isn’t 1958 – it’s 2014,” and Republicans, he mocked, should “join us in this century” by passing equal-pay legislation. Perhaps the White House should follow Obama’s smug advice. According to a January review by McClatchy Newspapers, women who work at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. earn 91% of what their male counterparts do. He didn’t stop there, adding, “Part of our challenge is fewer than 20 seats in Congress are held by women.” Except 99 women hold seats in Congress – there are 20 in the Senate. Facts.
