The Obama administration has stymied the overall potential of the energy sector with repugnant regulations. However, while fingers remain crossed, some bit of good news was revealed Monday that may indicate the administration’s willingness to open up the flow of natural gas for more business. The Hill reports, “The Energy Department … has ‘conditionally’ authorized the planned Jordan Cove liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal to export natural gas to countries with which the United States does not have a free trade agreement.” Sen. Lisa Murkowski responded, “Given the situation in Ukraine, this license sends a positive signal to our allies and to energy markets that the United States is ready to join the growing global gas trade.” Maybe. Only one terminal has been granted final approval by the DOE, so its long-term fate is unknown. That said, this decision was made despite tremendous outcry from environmental gurus. Only time will tell if this is the start of a new norm.
