The Patriot Post® · Iowa Candidate Warns of Farmers

Rep. Bruce Braley (D-IA) is running for Tom Harkin’s Iowa Senate seat after the latter announced his retirement. Braley stepped in a manure patch in Texas, however, when he warned a closed-door meeting of trial lawyers that, if Republicans retake the Senate as seems likely, “You might have a farmer from Iowa who never went to law school, never practiced law, serving as the next chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.” He was referring to Chuck Grassley, Iowa’s Republican senator since 1980. Iowa is, of course, a farm state, and his comments favoring lawyers over farmers won’t play well there. Worse, he was videoed in front of a table full of liquor bottles and tumblers, so it appears he was disparaging farmers while getting plowed.
