The American Humanist Association is furious after a Carroll County commissioner defied a judge’s order to refrain from publicly expressing her faith. Robin Frazier not only mentioned Jesus Christ during an assembly, but said she’s “willing to go to jail over it.” The AHA warned the board against any religious references in 2012 before suing last spring; the judge ultimately sided with AHA. That didn’t stop Frazier from expressing her beliefs anyway: “(Let) the Lord Jesus Christ to admit me to render these deserved thanks and praises for thy manifold mercies extended toward me. Let thy blessings guide this day, and forever, through Jesus Christ and his blessed form of prayer, I conclude my weak petitions.” AHA attorney Monica Miller blasted Frazier’s action, saying, “I think it’s particularly troubling that one of the council members saw fit to violate not only the Constitution but the judge’s very specifically ruling that they can’t be doing this.” Perhaps the judge in question and Ms. Miller should try actually reading the Constitution and show us the part that prohibits religious liberty. Hint: They won’t find any such restriction.
