The climate is changing, says a new report released today. The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released part two of four in its latest series sounding the alarm on anthropogenic global warming. According to IPCC Chairman Rajendra K. Pachauri, “What happens in terms of impact of climate change in different parts of the world will be determined to a large extent [by how much] we are prepared and able to mitigate the emissions of greenhouse gasses.” And by “mitigate” he means enact top-down government mandates, regulations and other controls.

The report is chock full of dire warnings. Without action, the report says, millions of people could be displaced due to coastal flooding as sea levels rise. As evidence, just look at the weather: “Impacts from recent extreme climatic events, such as heat waves, droughts, floods, and wildfires, show significant vulnerability and exposure of some ecosystems and many human systems to climate variability.” Of course, environmentalists tend to think of humans as a plague upon Gaia or Mother Earth or whatever other worshipful accolade they give to the planet, so the only reason they warn of the effects on humans is to justify the exertion of more government interference.

Another example of that is the class warfare in their findings. “Climate change will exacerbate poverty in low and lower-middle income countries,” the report warns, “including high mountain states, countries at risk from sea-level rise, and countries with indigenous peoples, and create new poverty pockets in upper-middle to high-income countries in which inequality is increasing.” Their solution is to tax the wealthy now, because income must be distributed more evenly. That and the “needed” measures lack funding of between $70 billion and $100 billion – per year.

Worst of all – you might want to be sitting down for this – the report says scientists “foresee an increase in golf in Canada,” and that the “increase [in] boating, golfing and beach recreation” would come “at the expense of skiing.” Oh the humanity!

The IPCC was famously criticized for its 2007 Nobel Peace Prize-winning report because it was a bit fast and loose with the facts, specifically with regard to Himalayan glaciers. It’s already been proven that facts are manipulated to achieve desired ends, so how trustworthy is the current report? Need we even ask?

As we have argued for years, climate change is almost certainly real. It has been incrementally changing for the entire history of the planet. But to blame current human economic activity and to recommend only massive government regulation is a naked power grab with a thin veil of “science” to disguise it. That’s why they need to enforce adherence to their religion through casting out or even imprisoning the heretics they call “deniers.” Secretary of State John Kerry cautioned, “The costs of inaction are catastrophic.” Action is pretty costly too.
