Oregon State University settled a legal battle over free speech, paying a student $1,000 plus $100,000 in legal fees. The school removed several newspaper bins for a student newspaper called “The Liberty,” and threw the bins by a dumpster. Supporters of the paper filed suit, accusing the school of violating First Amendment rights. The Ninth Circuit Court said it had “little trouble finding constitutional violations.” The school admitted no such thing but changed a policy and settled anyway. But the default for leftists is to suppress speech rather than engage it.
