The United Auto Workers lost the February election to unionize the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. But they’re not going quietly, appealing to the National Labor Relations Board to overturn the results. As part of that appeal, 20 people were subpoenaed, including Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) and Tennessee Republican Gov. Bill Haslam. The hearing is set for April 21, and the UAW accuses these people of wrongfully interfering with the voting at the plant. As we wrote at the time, the UAW had nearly every advantage and they still couldn’t close the deal. Corker’s comments about inside knowledge of the benefit of rejecting the union, however ill advised, were almost surely not decisive in the vote, and the union’s effort to throw out results based on something he said should go nowhere.
