Prime Minister David Cameron unveiled a novel idea for Britons looking to stay on long-term unemployment benefits: earn it. The Telegraph reports, “Long-term unemployed people will have to clean war memorials, restore historic monuments and look after animals at city farms to keep their benefits from today. The Government is unveiling its Help to Work scheme aimed specifically at 200,000 people who have been unemployed, or unable to hold down a job, for three years.” And if they don’t? “Failure to cooperate could see them losing work-related benefits, such as the £72-a-week job seekers’ allowance.” Across the pond, there are certainly millions of well-intentioned Americans who can’t find work thanks to Obamanomics. But Obamanomics has also served as a disincentive to millions of Americans who have replaced hard word with government handouts. Why earn your income when taxpayers can provide it for you? Perhaps Cameron is on to something; he may even present such an idea to his buddy Barack Obama.
