$1 Billion in Ammo Tossed
Because Pentagon can't streamline inventory.
According to the Government Accountability Office, the Pentagon’s inability to keep a streamlined inventory now means that $1.2 billion of excess ammunition will be destroyed. “The services hold an annual conference to share information about surplus ammunition and swap bullets and other munitions as needed,” explains Star and Stripes. However, “Data about ammunition left over after the meeting disappears from the books, resulting in an unknown amount of good bullets headed to the scrap heap.” Officials claim the annual meeting “saves” $70 million. So much for that.
