Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy addressed the city’s homicide epidemic by calling for even stricter gun control measures. The city is already home to the toughest gun restrictions in the nation. The remarks were in response to a 14-year-old girl murdered with a handgun stolen from a vehicle. “There was a legal gun that became an illegal gun,” McCarthy said. “In this case, the simple fact that the law states that you can store a firearm in a vehicle is absolutely insane. Those guns need to be in lock boxes, in safes, in people’s residences or on their person.” What McCarthy failed to mention is that the act of breaking into a car is itself illegal. And there are any number of instruments the perpetrator could have used to commit his heinous crime. When will Democrats address the real problem – a culture of rampant violence running amok on statist “poverty plantations”?
