As part of a $20 billion plan to replace the fleet of Marine One choppers, the Obama administration will buy 23 SIkorsky helicopters at an estimated cost of $400 million each. They obtained just one bid on the project, which won’t be complete until 2022. Several helicopters fly as decoys, hence the need for so many birds, but the price is still outrageous. One Defense official joked that at this steep price “Marine One should be able to have a solid gold toilet for the president – except that it would add too much weight.” Insert your own joke about flushing money down the John here. And all this from the same president who has repeatedly railed against “corporate fat cats” and their corporate jets.
