The Patriot Post® · Harvard 'Black Mass'
Harvard University has come a long way from its founding as a Puritan school of higher learning. The school’s original motto was “Veritas Christo et ecclesiae,” which means “Truth for Christ and the church.” On Monday, however, a group of students held a “black mass,” which is a Satanic ritual involving the desecration of Christian sacraments. After a predictable outcry over double standards, the Harvard Extension School Cultural Studies Club moved it off campus. They said, “Misinterpretations about the nature of the event were harming perceptions about Harvard and adversely impacting the student community.” Harvard officials didn’t endorse the event, but defended it as being for “educational purposes.” A Satanic ritual is, by definition, evil, and while free speech allows such things we certainly question the judgment of participants. But such is the state of the Ivory Tower.
