The Obama administration is “shocked, shocked!” to learn of the secret waiting lists at the VA medical facilities. When ABC’s journalist Jon Karl pressed the White House on the VA scandal at a press briefing, Press Secretary Jay Carney called the media’s reports “allegations” and “suggestions,” giving the reporter the run-around, saying, “This matter is under investigation. I’d point you to what the [Inspector General] said.” But according to a Washington Times investigation, Barack Obama knew in late 2008 of the waiting lists that started under the Bush administration. Daniel Dellinger, American Legion commander, called for the resignation of Secretary of Veterans’ Affairs Eric Shinseki and Undersecretary for Benefits Allison Hickey to step down. “They are both part of VA’s leadership problem. … VA needs a fundamental shift in leadership if it is to defeat its systematic lack of accountability.” This shift probably won’t happen with the current administration.
