Strongman Vladimir Putin has ordered the Russian military to pull back from the Ukrainian border – the second such order this month. “Putin previously claimed that some 40,000 Russian troops massed on Ukraine’s border had been withdrawn,” reports The Washington Post, “but the United States and NATO insisted they saw no signs of that.” Intelligence officials haven’t seen any evidence of movement this time around, either. According to Fox News, “The Kremlin statement neither addressed how many troops would be pulled out … nor did it specify a time element for the withdrawal.” A pivotal election is scheduled for Sunday in the capital of Kiev, and with pro-Russian separatists relying on Putin’s support , it’s difficult to view his latest dictate as anything more than another political gimmick.
