The Republican-controlled Missouri legislature has approved a measure that would allow school officials, including teachers, to conceal carry firearms provided they pass rigorous training. Democrat opponent Rep. Genise Montecillo says, “Children deserve real teachers, and they deserve real police officers. And I think when you try to have a teacher that’s trying to co-mingle those two roles, I think it’s a detriment to the classroom and I personally think it will make our classrooms less safe.” Millions of Americans conceal carry everyday; that doesn’t seem to distract unknowing passers-by. And the only classrooms that are less safe are the ones absent a good guy with a gun. The proposal now awaits Democrat Gov. Jay Nixon’s signature.
