Iranian President Hassan Rouhani says the U.S. must compensate Iran because our “hostile policies” have inflicted “much loss and damage” on the Iranian people. “If the U.S., in practice, abandons its hostile policy toward the Iranian nation and compensates for its past [antagonism],” Rouhani said, “a new situation can be envisaged for the future of both nations.” In other words, if we remove all sanctions and pay his damage claim, then Iran will consider serious talks about its nuclear program. Sounds like a deal too good for Barack Obama and his hashtag foreign policy team to pass up. What could go wrong?
