Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said on “Meet the Press” he wants to make access to guns difficult for minors, criminals and the mentally ill. “I want to make sure that the public gets together, tells Congress and their state legislatures, ‘We want reasonable background checks. We don’t want to end the Second Amendment. This has nothing to do with gun control.’ It is about just making sure that three groups, that 80 or 90% of the public thinks should not have guns, don’t get guns.” Why doesn’t the public get together to affirm the right to bear arms, and to push for greater study into why so many Americans suffer from mental illness in the first place?
