Sometimes, when you release birth certificates, something interesting happens, eh? Ted Cruz released his birth certificate last year and the Dallas Morning New pointed out since he was born to an American mother in Alberta, Canada, he has duel citizenship. Cruz said in an August 2013 statement, “Assuming that is true, then sure, I will renounce any Canadian citizenship. Nothing against Canada, but I’m an American by birth and, as a U.S. senator, I believe I should be only an American.” Recently, a certificate from Canada arrived in Cruz’s mailbox, confirming Cruz’s renunciation. It’s a shame, because Cruz gave up so much Canadian bacon: free state-run health care, sharing citizenship with Justin Beiber, and (lol!) the right to religion and free thought under Canadian laws.
