Civil rights activists are cheering Barack Obama’s newly imposed executive order banning sex discrimination toward workers contracting with the federal government, but the debate now turns toward the contentious issue of religious liberty. “[L]esbian, gay, bisexual, and transexual advocates … are warning the president not to undermine [the executive order] by exempting religious groups,” reports Bloomberg Businessweek. “A business owner who objects, argues Freedom to Work President Tico Almeida, ‘has the right to opt out of federal contracts and then make whatever personal choices he sees fit.’” Thus, the very individuals who portend to represent the party of inclusion are fighting to implement a universal ban – regardless of one’s belief. In a related note, the Supreme Court will rule any day now on the contraception mandate included in ObamaCare, and whether religious groups have the right to exempt themselves.
