In the Hillandale gated community in the Georgetown area of DC they have rules: rules for what color you can paint your door, a 15 mph rule, rules about pets. And they are not going to let little things like security get in the way of appearances. The Wall Street Journal reports, “As neighbors tell it, earlier this year, the security detail protecting new Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen barreled through the cul-de-sac where she lives in oversize vans loaded with guns, cameras and takeout pizza. It established an ‘armed camp’ next door to Ms. Forman’s townhome, according to a written bill of grievances presented by concerned neighbors deeming the uniformed police presence ‘uncomfortable for residents of various religious persuasions,’ such as Quakers.” That’s not all; residents say those out of shape “doughnut bellies” have “the most ridiculous blue uniforms” and “have guns that are visible.” There are three kinds of neighborhoods in DC: neighborhoods with security bars across doors and windows, neighborhoods too poor for security bars, and neighborhoods so rich they are out of touch with reality.
