Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) broke with the rest of the Senate’s “Gang of Eight” immigration reform co-authors by saying, “I don’t think the immigration bill that was proposed in the Senate would have prevented [the recent influx of illegal immigrants] from happening. What I think would have prevented that from happening is sufficient border security on the ground that would have discouraged people from making that journey in the first place.” Perhaps Rubio is positioning for a presidential run by showing he’s willing to work across the aisle but also walking away when the deal gets too bad. Regardless, he’s correct about the “comprehensive” reform proposal.
