John Carlin, assistant attorney general for national security in the Justice Department, warns that al-Qaida is planning for major cyberattacks against U.S. electrical grids, financial networks and other infrastructure. “It’s clear that the terrorists want to use cyber-enabled means to cause the maximum amount of destruction to our infrastructure,” Carlin said. “We’re in a pre-9/11 moment, in some respects, with cyber.” It’s true we should remain vigilant in protecting the home front, but is this the same al-Qaida that was “decimated” by Barack Obama’s mere presence?
