According to the White House website, “The Second Amendment gives citizens the right to bear arms.” This definition perfectly illustrates the Left’s misinterpretation of the Constitution and its purpose of protecting God-given rights. Gun Owners of America (GOA) founder H.L. “Bill” Richardson penned an open letter to Barack Obama, the “constitutional law professor,” explaining why the definition is inaccurate and asked the administration to revise it accordingly. “[T]he Second Amendment protects a right granted us by our Creator, as described in the nation’s charter, the Declaration of Independence,” Richardson writes. “Additionally, the description on the White House website completely ignores the fact that the Second Amendment protects not only the right to ‘bear’ arms but also to ‘keep’ them.” Both these points were affirmed by the Supreme Court in District of Columbia v. Heller and are explained in the Founders’ very own writings.
